NEW YORK, Feb. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Once again, the Labrador Retriever took Washington D.C.'s top spot in the American Kennel Club's (AKC®) 2015 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

The Lab was also recognized as the #1 pup in Charlotte, Houston, and Boston.

The Golden Retriever did not have a good year in Washington D.C.  Goldens fell from second to ninth in our nation's capital.  The French Bulldog rose two spots, landing at number two.  The people of D.C. showed their affection for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.  The breed rose 13 spots to number three.

"The Lab may be number one for now, but the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is pawing its way to the top," said AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo.  "The gentle, affectionate breed shot up the ranks, going from number 16 to number three."
