LAER Realty Partners Hosts Someone Cares Package Party

ANDOVER, Mass., Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- LAER Realty Partners, with offices throughout Massachusetts, is hosting the annual Someone Cares Package Party at the new flagship office in Andover on November 2^nd from 2 to 5pm. 

The Someone Cares Package Party was launched in 2012 when Realtor Deb Carberry made the following post on her Facebook page, "Today as I was getting in my car in a store parking lot, a man very politely asked me for change (really, didn't beg). I'm not comfortable opening my wallet and giving money to strangers. He said he was really thirsty and just wanted to get a bottle of water. I was happy that I had a bottle of water to give him, and he was very happy to receive it. I believe most people want to help others, but like me in this situation aren't sure how. This reminded me of these bags I had seen something about and have been meaning to put together. I believe they were referred to as blessing bags but really can be called anything. A large plastic storage bag with a bottle of water, hand sanitizer wipes, pack of gum, small snack type food and maybe mittens or gloves if in the winter. The ideas of what you can put in these bags are endless. I think a little note to let the person know someone cares and/or asking them to pay it forward would be nice too. Sometimes just knowing someone cares is enough to help someone through another day. Thinking it would be fun to get a bunch of us together to put together some of these bags to keep in our cars for when we get asked for change or see someone who could use a blessings bag or you could ask if maybe they know someone who could use a blessing bag. Anyone interested in working together to put some of these bags together? Seems like an easy way to pay it forward. My bottle of water certainly seemed appreciated today and I really wish I had one of these bags to go along with it. Let me know."  The Facebook post resulted in an event where the group put together more than 400 bags in 2012.  The Someone Cares Package Party grew in 2013 where more than 700 care packages were put together.

LAER Realty Partners of Andover will be the host for this event on November 2^nd from 2:00 to 5:00pm.  Those interested in donating can drop supplies at any LAER Realty Partners location before November 1^st.  As well, Deb Carberry, founder of The Someone Cares Package Party, has been visiting local elementary schools with the LAER mascot, LAERy the Lion, to talk with students about the importance of community service, and to encourage the kids to participate by making donations to the care packages.  A list of needed supplies for the care packages may be found below.  Those that participate in the party are encouraged to take a few care packages to leave in their vehicles so that they can help when someone asks.  A majority of the packages are brought to local shelters.

Travel size shampoo/soap/lotion (any travelers have these?)
