Leadership at 3M Headquarters in the United States Receives Brazilian Committee on INNOVATION TRIP
SAO PAULO, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The INNOVATION TRIP promoted by LIDE – Grupo de Lideres Empresariais (Group of Business Leaders), LIDE FUTURO and LIDE INOVACAO, has brought together 20 Brazilian executives at some of the world's most advanced economic centers in Minneapolis, Boston and Atlanta. The first stop was at the headquarters of 3M, a leading company in innovation, named in 2013 as one of the world's 100 major companies in strategy. 3M has a presence in 70 countries, US$ 31 billion in sales, 89,000 employees, 8,400 researchers and 100,000 patents registered worldwide.
The group met with Art Fry, creator of the post-it. According to him, although we think in the long term, at times evolution, allied with research and development, take faster routes than we have planned.
According to Denise Rutherford, President of International Operations at 3M for Latin America, of the company's 34,719 American employees, 4,400 are researchers. As far as innovation goes, the main concerns are: solid partnerships, incomparable quality, creative passion, solving unusual problems, a collaborative culture and innovation at the global level.
Dr. Ashish Khandpur, Senior Vice President for Research and Development and CTO at 3M, showed that there are 46 technological platforms developed at 85 laboratories around the world, with 47 centers for consumer technology that registered more than 3,300 patents in 2013. In the same year, the company recorded investments in Research and Development on the order of US$ 1.715 trillion, for a total of US$ 7.646 trillion in the last five years.
For Jesse Singh, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing, the company develops technologies that require strategies in order for growth to take place through multiple business models and locations. The resources used for this are: portfolio management, investment in innovation and transformation of business.
The INNOVATION TRIP has previously been made to Silicon Valley in California (USA), in 2011 and 2012, and to Israel in 2013. On those occasions, Brazilian participants visited renowned companies and startups such as Endeavor Global, Google, Apple, IDEO and 500 Startups, as well Stanford University.
