LearnSomething and MAXCOM Offer Training for New OSHA Requirement
Employees must be trained on new international HazCom Standard by December 2013
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Sept. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- LearnSomething today announced an agreement with MAXCOM to become the exclusive distributor to grocery and pharmacy of MAXCOM |GHS, a training curriculum for achieving compliance with OSHA's new Hazard Communication Standard.
Under the agreement, LearnSomething's flagship learning platform, Learner Community™, will power the MAXCOM |GHS portal. The portal provides employers with everything they need to train, test, and track their workers and provide them with Certificates of Completion.
The new OSHA training requirement sets a December 2013 deadline for employers to train employees on the significant changes in labeling and safety data sheets used for hazardous chemicals in the workplace. The new standards also require that employees demonstrate comprehension of training content.
The updated training is a result of OSHA aligning its Hazard Communication (HazCom) Standard with pictograms, signal words, hazard and precautionary statements, and SDS formats developed for the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), an international initiative for improving safety in the workplace. OSHA's HazCom Standard is based on the principle that employees have both a need and a right to know about hazardous chemicals in the workplace and how to avoid them.
Using the LearnSomething portal, employers will be able to enroll workers in any of the 19 MAXCOM |GHS courses that range from an overview on the risks of working with hazardous chemicals to specific hazard classes, including oxidizing gasses, flammable liquids, pyrophoric substances and skin corrosives.
"MAXCOM provides us with an extraordinary strategic partnership on many levels," said Steve Roden, LearnSomething's President and CEO. "First, it brings together two of the leading providers of online training. Second, MAXCOM's HazCom course is a wonderful complement to our own OSHA series. And third, our Learner Community platform provides the right technology to simplify the training process for employers and their workers. We're thrilled to be MAXCOM's exclusive distributor of their GHS program for the grocery and pharmacy sectors."
