October 29, 2010, Lenovo signed an agreement with the municipal government of Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan province, to build a large industrial base in Chengdu that includes a production center, a marketing center, and an R&D center.

In terms of production, according to the agreement between Lenovo and Chengdu Hi-tech Zone, this project, with designed annual production capacity of ten million PCs, will start production in late 2011. Regarding research and development, a R&D center that involves about 1,000 persons is to be gradually built here. At that time, this base will become one of the most important global R&D centers of Lenovo Mobile Internet. As for sales and operations, Lenovo will set up in Chengdu a commercial complex and regional settlement center which will cover the markets of western China, Central and South of Asia, and even Europe.
