Lessons Since the Reagan Revolution at the FTC: Conference to Provide 30-Year Perspective on Competition and Consumer Policies
ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Henry G. Manne Program in Law & Economics Studies at the Law & Economics Center (LEC) at George Mason University School of Law will hold a conference entitled, "Lessons Since the Reagan Revolution at the FTC: A 30-Year Perspective on Competition and Consumer Policies."
The conference will take place this Friday, September 30, 2011 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the George Mason University School of Public Policy, 3351 Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA 22201
"When the Reagan Administration came to power in 1980, it enacted some sweeping reforms at the Federal Trade Commission that shaped competition and consumer policies for the past thirty years," said Henry N. Butler, executive Director of the LEC and George Mason Foundation Professor of Law at George Mason University School of Law.
"As the FTC once more gains expanded authority and broad new powers for consumer protection and antitrust enforcement, and moves to regulate online privacy, continued discussion of these reforms is more important than ever," added Butler.
The conference features four former FTC Chairman (including James C. Miller III – who became Chairman on September 30, 2011), three current commissioners, and law & economics scholars from across the country. These speakers will reexamine the important changes implemented in the early 80s, evaluate their lasting impact, and consider the insights gained for current and future FTC practices and policies.
The conference is organized by Butler and Joshua D. Wright, Professor of Law at George Mason University School of Law.
