Let Financial Freedom Ring for America's Nurses
A New Booklet Helps Put Nurses on the Path to Retirement Security
WASHINGTON, July 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Just in time to celebrate our nation's independence, a booklet released today will help our nation's nurses achieve their financial independence.
The Women's Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER) and the CENTER for American Nurses (the CENTER) released The Busy Nurse's Guide to Financial Planning. This comprehensive yet easy-to-read booklet is geared toward helping nurses understand the basics of financial planning, and focuses on steps to achieve a financially secure retirement. The booklet is part of the Busy Nurse's Toolkit.
WISER and the CENTER are partners in the Nurses' Investor Education Project. Funded by a grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, the project's goal is to help nurses who are short on time and financial knowledge to prepare for a secure retirement.
"In a survey of nurses we conducted, 61% said they don't have time to focus on securing their own retirement because of other priorities," notes Wylecia Harris, Executive Director of the CENTER. "And more than half don't know where to begin. This booklet is perfect for those who are short on time, but also at-risk for not having enough money as they age."
The Busy Nurse's Guide to Financial Planning helps nurses identify possible sources of retirement income and what steps they can take to increase their retirement assets. The booklet offers a range of guidance, from financial tips for nurses in every decade of their lives, to developing a retirement plan that fits with their current financial picture and future goals.
"In return for a lifetime of caring for others," Cindy Hounsell, President of WISER comments, "nurses deserve the comfort and dignity of financial independence in retirement." She encourages all women to take action, saying it's never too early – or too late – to plan for retirement.
