Life Wireless customer stories featured at Lifeline Awareness Week event
COVINGTON, Ga., Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The stories of several Life Wireless™ customers will be featured during a Lifeline Awareness Week event on Sept. 12 designed to raise awareness about how the Lifeline program improves people's lives. Life Wireless is a cellular provider offering free phone service to income-eligible customers through the federal Lifeline program.
The Washington, D.C. event, titled "Communications Safety Net," brings together advocates and policy makers to discuss the critical importance of the Lifeline program. Stories from Life Wireless, customers and other Lifeline providers will be showcased to illustrate how Lifeline enables people to stay connected to their families, search for employment, contact emergency services, and fully engage with their communities.
The event features a keynote address by Mignon Clyburn, acting chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission. The event is sponsored by a group of public policy and civil rights organizations, including the New America Foundation, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the National Hispanic Media Coalition, the National Consumer Law Center, and the Media Action Grassroots Network.
Life Wireless customer Edward B., from Chicago, is one Lifeline recipient who will be featured at the event. "Without my phone I could not make phone calls to inquire about employment," Edward's testimonial reads. "I just received a call from an employer to schedule an interview. Without this phone, that would not have been possible."
"We know that Lifeline phone service helps our customers every day stay connected to family, friends, and the world around them. Some customers have told us it's the first time in their lives they've had a phone of their own," said Jim Carpenter, a senior vice president at Life Wireless.
"We're thrilled to have the stories of our customers included in this important event. Lifeline truly helps improve people's lives."
Lifeline Awareness Week is Sept. 9-13.
