Lincoln Park named Title I Distinguished School
MIDLAND, Pa., Feb. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School has been honored as a 2014-2015 Title I Distinguished School by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (DOE) for high academic achievement, announced Principal and CEO P.K. Poling.
The award is given to schools ranking in the top 5 percent, as measured by aggregate student math and reading PSSA test scores, Keystone test scores, and by having met all Annual Measurable Objectives.
Lincoln Park is one of only 96 schools in Pennsylvania to be named a Title I Distinguished School, and one of 87 to earn that designation based on high academic achievement. Making "high progress" toward academic goals is the other criterion for being named a Title I Distinguished School.
Four elementary schools in Beaver County earned the designation, but New Brighton Area High School was the only other high school in Beaver County named a Title I Distinguished School.
Mr. Poling was informed of the designation in a letter from Ken Krawchuk, education administration associate in the DOE Division of Federal Programs.
"I congratulate you and your staff on the success you are experiencing within your school," Krawchuk wrote.
Lincoln Park and other western Pennsylvania Title I Distinguished Schools were recognized at the 2015 Title I Improving Schools' Performance Conference, held Jan. 25-28 at Sheraton Station Square.
Principal/CEO Poling said Lincoln Park students, their parents, and school staff deserve credit for the achievement.
Dr. Lindsay Rodgers is federal programs coordinator for Lincoln Park. Poling said, "Dr. Rodgers has done an outstanding job of implementing our Title I program."
"Over the past nine years the staff, students, and families of Lincoln Park have promoted artistic and academic excellence," said Dr. Rodgers.
"We have watched our middle school teachers, Keystone-aligned course teachers, and teachers of test preparation courses go above and beyond to best prepare our students for these high stakes exams. This distinction for academic progress and achievement is a wonderful reflection of their exemplary instruction and of the commitment of all members of the Lincoln Park community to a well-rounded education."
