LISLE, Ill., Dec. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Chicagoans who are looking for something to do during the holiday season will want to put a trip to Lisle's Morton Arboretum at the top of their list. The Arboretum's annual holiday event Illumination: Tree Lights at The Morton Arboretum is back and bigger than ever and remains one of the most popular of holiday experiences in Chicago suburbs. This special evening event is going on now and runs through January 2, 2016.
This is the third year that The Morton Arboretum is holding the event, which features LED lights and trees that respond to touch and voice. A one-mile long path through the woods leads visitors through dazzling light displays that are both interactive and educational.
"This is a true winter wonderland experience. Everyone loves to look at holiday light displays, but we usually have to do it from the car. At Illumination, visitors are literally walking through displays or taking part in it themselves," explained Diane Homolka, Executive Director of the Lisle Convention & Visitors Bureau (www.stayinlisle.com).
According to the Arboretum's event planners in the Chicago suburb of Lisle, the one-mile long trail is peppered with warming stations and kiosks where guests can purchase hot chocolate or coffee to warm up. On certain days there are live musical performances in the Arboretum's Ginko Room and even carolers along the outside trail. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra provided new music that is featured along the trail every day.
Illumination is open every evening through January 2 except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The gates open at 5:00 p.m. with the last entry allowed in at 8:30 p.m. Lights are turned off at 9:30 p.m.
