8 out of 10 Americans have a book in them, but don't know where to start.
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Is self-publishing and media training the answer? According to a recent survey, "81 percent of people feel that they have a book in them... and should write it." This represents over 200 million people in the U.S. who want to write a book in their lifetime. Publishers Weekly reports that there were more than 750,000 self-published/micro publisher titles in 2009--while the number of traditionally published titles slipped to just over 288,000.
Now that 52% of all books aren't even sold in bookstores, players like Borders books went bankrupt paving the way for authors and self-publishers to move their efforts online. Bookstore sales declined 7.8% between 2009 and 2010. Online sales increased 46.1%! The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) reports e-books having a 6.2% market share in 2010. Physical books sales declined between 2009 and 2010, while e-books grew 201% contributing to Amazon.com's record growth after launching its Kindle.
These facts demonstrate a powerful opportunity for aspiring authors to get online and bypass publishing completely, but not all authors can find success on this large platform. As great as this opportunity is the real truth is that the average sale of self-published books is under 20 copies.
There is a new concept, "wag the long tail," which means if you rack up enough small sales online, it will add up in the long run. Technology is turning mass markets into millions of niches and self-publishers and authors can sell effectively into these micro markets.
Kristen White, the creator of Instant Celebrity Academy, and a former NBC TV journalist says, "This takes focus and ingenuity. Where authors must learn to become entrepreneurs if they want to share their story with the world." Kristen works with authors to create video marketing strategies to sell their books to the micro communities listed above on a larger scale.
Kristen is holding a three-day sold-out media coaching event for authors, speakers, coaches and entrepreneurs on September 25-28, 2011 in San Diego at Rancho Bernardo Inn and Spa. Attendees are flying from across the country to receive professional make-up from Hollywood stylists, a pro-photo shoot, be video taped by a Hollywood film crew, professionally interviewed, media, and content coached by Kristen White.
