- Loc Wins Subcontract for General Dynamics Land Systems Production of Army's Newest Tracked Combat Vehicle to Support All-Terrain Joint Forces
PLYMOUTH, Mich., Oct. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) has awarded Michigan-based Loc Performance Products, Inc. a subcontract to design and produce final drive assemblies for the United States Army's Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV).
Building on a successful partnership of designing and producing the highest quality final drive assemblies for the Army's M1 Abrams and M88 Armored Recovery Vehicles, Loc will collaborate with Allison Transmission as a joint development team to execute the design responsibilities of the project, before assuming full responsibility for production of an estimated 4,000 assemblies as GCV's are fielded to the soldiers.
"This subcontract was awarded through a highly competitive bid process where Loc demonstrated best value in terms of cost, technical performance, and on-time delivery. This award validates Loc's premier position as the industry's full service engineering provider of robust geared solutions for the military's fleet of ground vehicles," said Chad Darr, Director of Product Development at Loc.
As the sole supplier of M1 Abrams final drives for over twenty years, Loc's history of organizational flexibility and agile production processes has resulted in the company acquiring manufacturing contracts for every final drive design within the U.S. Department of Defense fleet of combat tracked vehicles. To date, Loc has manufactured over 13,000 final drive assemblies for the U.S. military.
The GCV is the Army's future tracked combat vehicle to support joint forces across the full range of military operations in a wide range of terrain and environments. The GCV will maintain and improve the US Army's full spectrum force to support commanders in irregular warfare, peace operations in small scale contingencies or counterinsurgency operations, homeland defense, civil support, and Major Combat Operations (offensive, defensive, and security). The GCV provides the Army with versatility, agility, lethality, sustainability, survivability, interoperability, and flexibility to respond to varying operations.
