Local company receives prestigious national award
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas, Feb. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Every year, Inc. Magazine, a stalwart monthly business publication, releases a list of the top 5,000 fastest-growing companies in the United States. New Braunfels' own HMT Engineering & Surveying has been honored with inclusion in the roster released in the September, 2015 issue. The local firm has been ranked #2306, with a three-year growth rate of 168%.
Local through and through
Founded in 1977, HMT has become the go-to firm for several of the Hill Country's top engineering projects. They currently employ a team of over 40 highly trained engineers, surveyors, and technicians. Employees and officers alike hold positions in many ubiquitous New Braunfels organizations such as the Wurstfest Association, New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Foundation, Leadership New Braunfels, and the Downtown Rotary, to name just a few. The company has two offices in New Braunfels and will be opening a third location in San Antonio in April 2016.
"People are our business"
Beyond the skill and experience of the technical teams, a large part of the company's success boils down to relationships. They instill a passion for their work and for serving their clients. They begin every day thankful for an opportunity to serve their community and God. Transparency and accountability are promoted while building a common future, and they care about one another.
Senior Project Manager Chris Van Heerde noted, "When one of the employees slipped and injured herself while trying to move to a new apartment, we rallied a group from the office to move all of the remaining items the same day that she was injured." Executive Assistant Kendra Miller had this to say: "My co-workers, from the top down, are positive, caring and helpful - all while working in a 'family' yet, professional atmosphere. I feel blessed to be a part of the HMTEAM!"
With such an intrinsic ethic in place, it's no wonder the company has been attracting and retaining dedicated staff members.
A testament to strong leadership
The executives of HMT are responsible for developing this human-centric corporate culture. The tenets of "Relationships, Ownership, Passion, and High Expectations" form the core of their business model and are not taken lightly. This drive has contributed to the company's growth and subsequent placement on the Inc. 5000 list.
"The story of this year's Inc. 5000 is the story of great leadership. In an incredibly competitive business landscape, it takes something extraordinary to take your company to the top," says Inc. President and Editor-In-Chief Eric Schurenberg. "You have to remember that the average company on the Inc. 5000 grew nearly six-fold since 2012. Business owners don't achieve that kind of success by accident."
Building communities, literally and figuratively
The grace exhibited by HMT executives and employees extends well beyond the workplace. Several members joyously donate time and money to a number of local community outreach programs through civic, educational, and church organizations – both individually and through the company. T.J. Brace, an Engineering Designer for HMT, is proud of the work his company and co-workers do for the community at large: "HMT purposefully and generously serves its community, its clients and staff. It doesn't stop there, as the work reaches out to places like Peru, where HMT sends teams of people in to help build facilities and minister to the locals. We actually are building relationships and futures that glorify God."
