"This is an atrocity to the residents of Flint, MI. As physicians, we have a commitment to treat the underserved, poverty-stricken population, many from who have fallen victim to this lead poisoning crisis. Lead Poisoning has neurological effects on child development and can have lifelong health risks."
Public officials have allowed the residents of the City of Flint, MI to drink, bath and wash their clothes in contaminated water tainted with lead for more than two years. Flint's Emergency Manager, Darnell Early, switched the City of Flint's steady water source from the Detroit River to the corrosive Flint River in 2014, to save $800 million over a 30-year contract. According to Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, 90 cases of Legionnaires disease were reported over the last 1.5 years. Ten people have died.
Dr. Marilyn McPherson-Corder will be joined by Karen Weaver, the Mayor of Flint Michigan, and Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton on the Steve Harvey Show.
