Local Elementary Students 'Do 2 for the 2 Day'
Students from Sarah Smith Elementary School Make a Stand against Breast Cancer
ATLANTA, Nov. 4, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Students from Sarah Smith Elementary School will walk two miles on Saturday, November 6, 2010, to raise money for It's the Journey, Inc., an Atlanta-based foundation and producer of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. The walk begins at the school's intermediate campus at 11 a.m. This is the first walk fundraiser put on by a school to benefit It's the Journey.
After Sarah Smith Elementary teacher Stephanie Wilkinson was diagnosed with breast cancer last September, the disease became much more relevant to teachers and students at the International Baccalaureate World School in North Atlanta.
"Two of my current fourth grade students had a lemonade stand several weeks ago and donated the money they raised to the 2-Day walk," said Wilkinson. "My hope is that my breast cancer diagnosis will inspire young students to take action in their community."
Proceeds from pink bracelet sales, hat-jeans day, the "portable pink potty" and walk registration will be donated on behalf of Sarah Smith Elementary to It's The Journey, Inc. to be used for funding multiple local programs that help provide financial assistance, education, diagnosis, treatment and much more.
