SEATTLE, Sept. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockerz, the leader in rewarded social expression with more than 45 million unique visitors monthly, today announced the acquisition of Vodpod.com and related assets from Remixation, Inc. This addition enables Lockerz members to create personalized channels featuring video content from anywhere on the Web, including the Lockerz library of thousands of popular videos. Uniquely, Lockerz members will earn Lockerz PTZ® for setting up their own video (Vodpod) channels, which can be redeemed for the best discounts on popular fashion and accessories, entertainment and electronics brands sold on Lockerz Shop.
Vodpod has innovated online video collection by allowing users to create socialized, hand-crafted channels with anyone. Together, Lockerz and Vodpod have garnered over 1 billion video views to date. Over time, Lockerz plans to add key features and functionality including the ability to earn PTZ® and social integration with existing Lockerz members.
"Lockerz is building the leading platform to reward social expression, and our members are passionate about their favorite videos," said Kathy Savitt, founder and CEO of Lockerz. "Lockerz members curate their entire world, from music to fashion to video clips, and we are excited to offer them the ability to get rewarded for sharing what they love."
Lockerz video offering is among the most popular activities on the site, generating nearly 400 million views in the past year. The library includes thousands of music videos from the likes of Katy Perry, Coldplay and Snoop Dogg, as well as three Lockerz original content series.
In addition to providing a great experience for members, adding new video functionality offers additional opportunities for Lockerz' growing list of retail and entertainment partners to launch integrated marketing programs and targeted advertising. Recent partner additions to the Lockerz platform include EMI Music, Live Nation Entertainment and Entertainment.com.
"Vodpod has pioneered new ways for people to share their favorite videos without boundaries," said Mark Hall, CEO of Remixation, Inc. "We are excited that Lockerz will build on the great customer experience we have developed and introduce millions of Lockerz members to rewarded video curation."
Going forward, the Remixation team will focus its efforts on Showyou, a new social video discovery application for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that launched in April 2011.
Vodpod allows websites to easily pull and organize videos, and will continue uninterrupted for publishers and users. The acquisition of Vodpod fuels Lockerz robust platform for users, partners and advertisers to extend their reach and target desired audiences, including Generation Z.
Lockerz was built from the ground up to serve the needs of its members, ages 13 to 30, and reward social expression. PTZ (points) are the discount fuel of Lockerz -- the ultimate rewards program for this generation. Members earn PTZ in more than 10 ways, including watching videos, uploading photos, inviting friends, answering "Dailies" (witty and provocative one-question polls), or just logging in. These PTZ can then be used to drive down the prices of popular brands sold in Lockerz SHOP.
Based in Seattle, Lockerz' mission is to be the homepage for men and women ages 13 to 30, building a community of more than 45 million unique visitors monthly and tastemakers who love to shop, play and connect on the Web. Lockerz rewards members for doing what they love online, offering major discounts on the coolest fashions, electronics, music and more. Members earn PTZ® (Points) by watching videos, listening to music and inviting friends. Lockerz PTZ are then used to lower the prices of merchandise at-will.
