LOS ANGELES, March 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Los Angeles Councilmember Bob Blumenfield will participate as a Keynote Speaker in the Smart Gigabit LA business & technology conference, March 29 & 30 in Los Angeles, event organizers announced today.  Mr. Blumenfield who chairs the City's Innovation, Grants, Technology, Commerce and Trade Committee, represents the 3rd Council District, which spans the northwest portion of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley, including the communities of Canoga Park, Reseda, Tarzana, Winnetka and Woodland Hills.

Smart Gigabit LA is designed to bringing together the Southern California civic community -- Los Angeles and surrounding city and municipal leaders – with the "Gigabit Broadband" and "Smart City" ecosystems of technology solutions, Internet of Things platforms, wireless infrastructure and more --to explore opportunities in ultra-high speed broadband networking and 'smart city infrastructure.'

AT&T, the Anchor Sponsor of Smart Gigabit LA, began offering initial availability of speeds up to 1 gigabit per second over the 100 percent fiber AT&T GigaPower network to apartment communities in Los Angeles beginning last December, with plans for a full market launch this year. This makes the region one of the first major metros of the 20 where AT&T offers gigabit speeds, and an additional 36 have been announced. Additional sponsors to the event include Allied Telesis, Magellan Advisors, Time Warner Cable, Sunesys and others.

"The objective of Smart Gigabit LA is to introduce the technology platforms and infrastructure that is changing the metropolitan cityscape for innovation, job creation and economic growth," said Timothy Downs, the Event Director. "We will bring together the next generation platforms and people like Councilmember Blumenfield who are leading the way to turn ideas into market-leading high-bandwidth gigabit services and Internet of Things (IoT) applications for a 'Smart plus Connected' Southern California region."
