LULAC Expresses Support for Democratic Members of Congress Concerned by FCC's Title II Proposal to Regulate Broadband

WASHINGTON, May 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) believes the Federal Communications Commission's decision to move forward under the auspices of Title II could raise broadband prices, deter innovation and set the development of broadband internet back many years leaving Latino populations underserved.

We believe the focus of the FCC should be on prioritizing broadband adoption, creating jobs, fostering an open internet, and increasing competition in the broadband industry to bring costs down.  The best way to achieve these priorities is for Congress to first clarify the FCC's authority with regard to broadband internet service.  We are encouraged by a letter from several members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and other House Democrats which raise similar concerns about this proposal's impact on the availability of affordable broadband access.

LULAC fully supports an innovative Internet along with supportive policies that encourage investment and competition that will lead to the build out of affordable broadband networks that reach all Americans. The American effort to increase broadband deployment and adoption should not be slowed by overly prescriptive regulations.  Instead, Congress and the FCC should lay forth policies that encourage the swift implementation of the National Broadband Plan.
