Lung Cancer Alliance Announces 4th Annual National Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil
WASHINGTON, July 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) announced the 4th National Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil will take place across the country and internationally on November 13th as part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month. The Vigil is the largest nationally and now, internationally coordinated awareness event for lung cancer.
On November 13th and throughout the month of November, volunteers and participants will join together to honor one another. Each Vigil features personal stories from survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals who share information on local resources. The Vigils are designed to unite participants in a national call to action to reduce lung cancer mortality by 50 percent by 2020.
"The Vigils are unique events that provide an opportunity for volunteers to get creative in the way in which they want to help the lung cancer community in their area," said LCA President & CEO, Laurie Fenton Ambrose. "Messages of hope, support and compassion are conveyed to attendees at each and every one with the underlying message that 'No One Deserves to Die' from lung cancer."
LCA is committed to having 125 communities nationwide host a vigil to raise awareness for lung cancer in their area. Furthermore, LCA continued its partnership with the Australian Lung Foundation for the second year, making the Vigil an international awareness event for lung cancer!
"We had laughter and tears, we had old and young and everyone came away with a lesson learned," said Gean Brown, a 2011 vigil organizer in Middletown, CT. "Words really can't express how grateful I am to all those who helped with the vigil. It was so inspiring, heartwarming, and educational."
