Major Energy Expands Into Solar Energy University of Massachusetts Medical School becomes inaugural customer of new renewable division from Major Energy Electric Services

ORANGEBURG, N.Y., Jan. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Major Energy, (www.MajorEnergy.com), a leading A+ BBB rated Energy Service Company, and the Official Energy Partner of the NY Knicks and Madison Square Garden, through its 99% equity stake in Palmer Solar LLC,  has constructed a 2.5MW PV solar ground array in Palmer, Massachusetts, with the energy being sold to the University Of Massachusetts under a 30 year PPA arrangement.

The system has been built on a 24 acre land parcel located at North Street in Palmer, Massachusetts and will consist of 8,500 300W solar panels spread over 772 strings. The system is expected to produce 3.25 million kWh per year and is contracted under a PPA to sell 100% of production to the University Of Massachusetts Medical School for 30 years. This project has been in development for over a year with site work commencing during April, 2013 and was interconnected with National Grid in December, 2013.

Major Energy currently serves the residential and commercial customers in the deregulated natural gas and electric markets of Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. This endeavor marks Major Energy's introduction to Massachusetts. It is expected that Major Energy will begin offering its full suite of variable rate and fixed rate energy products to Massachusetts residential and commercial customers in 2014 to complement this launch.

"It is a privilege to be kicking off our solar business in such a great market with such strong partners," noted Saul Horowitz, CEO of Major Energy. "Greenhouse Solar, The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) and The University of Massachusetts have all done -  and continue to do - a great job at crafting a program that sets a tremendous example for businesses and institutions in Massachusetts, and throughout the country, on how to exercise fiscal diligence and environmental responsibility."

The Palmer Solar project will have a significant environmental impact by reversing the Co2 pollution effects of 225,000 gallons of automobile gasoline each year, for the next 30 years, and will result in up to 30% energy costs savings for the University of Massachusetts. A website displaying, in real time, the power produced by the solar array each day for the school can be found at http://solrenview.com/SolrenView/mainFr.php?siteId=2486.
