Maker Faire Atlanta "Call For Makers" Now Open
Makers of all kinds are encouraged to apply to join the Southeast's largest gathering of artists, creators and inventors taking place October 27-28 in Atlanta
ATLANTA, Aug. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Southeast Makers Alliance, organizer of Maker Faire® Atlanta, has opened its "Call for Makers" and is now accepting applications online at https://atlanta.makerfaire.com/apply/ through October 1, 2018. The eighth annual event returns to the Georgia Railroad Freight Depot and will take place Saturday and Sunday, October 27-28.
Maker Faire Atlanta is the largest, free to attend, gathering of its kind in the Southeast and features DIY, arts, crafts, technology, robots, electronics, STEM educational activities and lots of family-friendly fun. People of all ages and backgrounds, from artists to engineers, will show what they're making and share what they've learned through their creative, scientific and educational journeys.
"Makers, as well as those with curiosity for and passion about making, will spend the weekend exchanging ideas and knowledge while also building community," said Milton Walker III, interim executive director of the Southeast Makers Alliance, Inc. "Attendees should expect to see and experience a little of everything—from art and crafting to the making of wooden hammocks using reclaimed wood to a giant vortex cannon and drones. There's something for all interests! Join us to celebrate the Maker Movement!"
Walker added that attendees will be able to participate in workshops, demonstrations and discussions led by national and regional expert makers.
Starting as a Mini Maker Faire in 2011, the annual event has grown to become Maker Faire Atlanta and recorded its top attendance at 200 makers and 30,000 attendees in one year. Maker Faire Atlanta has featured popular events like the Drone Racing Challenge and the PowerRacing Series. This year, Maker Faire Atlanta will feature its first Cosplay competition.
Maker Faire Atlanta 2018 will be open Saturday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 28, from noon to 5:00 p.m.
Interested makers can apply at https://atlanta.makerfaire.com/apply/.
There is no fee for participation for non-commercial makers, including youth makers and non-profits, as long as no items are being promoted or sold (in other words, "show and tell" only). Commercial makers wishing to sell, promote or advertise are charged a $150 fee upon acceptance. Corporate booths are available through event sponsorship.
