CLEARWATER, Fla., Feb. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- My Hope Chest has helped women all across America undergo breast reconstruction surgery after cancer. Makesha is scheduled for her charity surgery on February 15th by Dr. Anthony Gayoso at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. Makesha began her journey of transformation with a tissue expander and implant reconstruction in September of 2015. My Hope Chest founder, Alisa, had a similar reconstruction before beginning this non-profit organization.
Reconstructive surgery is a serious and complicated process that a woman chooses after mastectomy to restore her body. It's a series of 3 surgeries and takes about one year to complete if there are no complications – it is not an augmentation, a.k.a. "boob job."
Makesha experienced a setback during the process due to infection, delaying the completion. Makesha, like many breast cancer survivors, is a true warrior and pushed forward as her dream was and is to "feel whole again". The good news, thanks to the expert skills of our wonderful surgeon, Makesha's chest was healed and she is once again on her way to the final step of breast reconstruction. On February 15, 2017, Dr. Gayoso will create her breast mound again with an implant and "touch ups" through fat grafting.
