WESTPORT, Conn., May 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Maplewood Senior Living announced today that it has closed on a 27-acre parcel of land in the heart of Southport where it will build Maplewood at Southport, a new luxury, three-story, 98 unit assisted living and memory care community. Site preparations will begin immediately with the intention to begin construction this summer.
"Maplewood is excited to begin work on the construction of our newest senior living community and appreciate the town's assistance in making this project a reality," said Gregory D. Smith, President and CEO of Maplewood Senior Living, based in Westport, Connecticut. "We had been waiting for the right opportunity to extend our services to the Southport-Fairfield area, and believe Maplewood at Southport will answer the demand for much needed services to local seniors," Mr. Smith added.
The property for Maplewood at Southport is overlooking the scenic Sherwood Mill Pond and nestled in the convenient Mill Hill neighborhood adjacent to Mill Hill Elementary school. The 92,000 square foot senior living community will evoke the tradition of the rambling Adirondack and coastal New England style resort hotels of the early 20th century. Stein-Troost of Norwalk, Connecticut is the architect, LANDTECH Engineering is the civil engineer, Milone & McBroom is the landscape architect and KBE Building Corporation of Farmington is Corporation of Farmington is the contractor for the project. All have worked on a number of Maplewood Senior Living developments over the years.
Maplewood Senior Living has achieved high marks with its two nearby communities in East Norwalk and Darien and intends to exceed expectations in Southport. The attention to detail, both in interior finish and millwork as well as exterior and design, has been incorporated to create an inviting destination for seniors along Connecticut's Gold Coast in highly coveted lower Fairfield County.
Maplewood's signature thoughtfully designed common areas with fireplaces, beautiful libraries, coffered lobbies, a timbered great room, gourmet display kitchens, and salon and spa are highlighted amenities for resident and visitor enjoyment. Terraced gardens overlooking the five acre pond with views of the natural wildlife will be the focal point. The developer will also be incorporating new, public sidewalks along the perimeter of the project as well as walking trails and seating areas in a 13-acre conservation area. Residents will enjoy stunning views of Sherwood Mill Pond including the surrounding 27 acre natural setting filled with a variety of wildlife, mature trees, flowering plants and meadows.
