RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Markel Corporation (NYSE: MKL) announced today that it has promoted John K. Latham to managing director, regional wholesale operations. John will oversee Markel's regional offices located in Virginia, Texas, Arizona, California, Illinois and New Jersey. In addition to his new role, he will continue to oversee the Southeast Region headquartered in Richmond, VA.

Mr. Latham has 43 years of experience in the insurance industry and he has been with Markel for the past seven years where he has held several leadership roles including president of Markel Re and chief information officer. Prior to joining Markel, he was president and chief executive of Colony Insurance Companies.
