MarketLive® Retailers Achieve 26% Jump in Cyber Monday Revenue over Last Year
Mid-Market Sites Use Creative Merchandising To Gain Higher-Than-Average Increases Without Deep Discounting
PETALUMA, Calif., Dec. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- MarketLive, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise-class eCommerce technology and services, today announced that Cyber Monday revenue for its online retailers increased 26 percent over last year, compared with the general increase of 22 percent in U.S. online spending for the day.
The impressive revenue increase for MarketLive's mid-market merchants came despite fierce competition from top national brick and mortar retailers and from online giant Amazon.com.
MarketLive businesses drove strong revenue growth while sharpening their focus on the bottom line. "Our retailers are making smart investments of tight marketing budgets to drive holiday sales without overspending," said Mark Pierce, CEO of MarketLive. "Their strategy is to avoid deep discounting in favor of value-driven merchandising and to offer conditional or limited free shipping. Their results speak for themselves."
The strategy was reflected in key performance indicators. Compared with 2010, site traffic was up only 4.7 percent for Cyber Monday but conversion rates grew by a healthy 12 percent. Average order value for the first week of the holiday season was up 8 percent year-over-year. MarketLive retailers are seeing higher qualified traffic along with more effective site merchandising that is driving these higher conversation and average order size increases.
Pierce said that MarketLive retailers will continue to focus on creative merchandising such as using limited or conditional shipping offers as opposed to everyday free shipping, as the holiday season progresses.
This year's Cyber Monday was the biggest online spending day in history, with revenues of $1.25 billion in the United States, according to comScore, which specializes in measuring digital data.
