WASHINGTON and NEW YORK and LONDON, Nov. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As a leader in business intelligence, MarketResearch.com is pleased to offer some insights into Thanksgiving 2015.
As many consumers gear up for holiday weekend bargains, a big group is also shopping for Thanksgiving dinner. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, nearly $2.4 billion will be spent on turkey, stuffing, potatoes, pumpkin, and more for Thanksgiving 2015.

Two major staples for the Thanksgiving season include turkey and pumpkin. An estimated 51 million turkeys will be consumed on turkey-day, which is about 20% of the roughly 248 million turkeys raised in the U.S.
In 2014, pumpkin pie filling carried the pumpkin market, reaching $135 million in sales. But other pumpkin novelties are creating demand, too. Nearly $361 million was spent on other pumpkin products, and the pumpkin fad has not scaled down this year. Pumpkin flavor has become a household favorite in the U.S. with products such as cream, coffee, baking products, and even candy and gum. However, with the announcement of a pumpkin shortage in October, there will be a potential decrease in the amount of canned pumpkin purchased in 2015.
After dinner, the holiday shopping weekend will kick off, with some even shopping the day of Thanksgiving. In 2014, 35 million shoppers headed to the stores on Thanksgiving Day. Millennials (shoppers between ages 18 and 34) were the biggest demographic group, with an estimated 36% of millennials shopping on Thanksgiving Day.
