DALLAS, June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mary Kay Inc. supports the reintroduction of legislation that will provide a national uniform standard for product safety and strengthen the oversight power of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration with respect to products.
"Nothing is more important than product safety," said Terry Jacks, Vice President of Research and Development at Mary Kay. "Every year, we spend millions of dollars and conduct more than a half million tests to ensure our products are safe and effective."
Mary Kay supports strong federal legislation that, once and for all, provides one clear national and contemporary standard for cosmetic products that maintains the continued safety of our products. We are hopeful that such legislation will be considered by the U.S. Congress this session.
The legislation being reintroduced, originally known as the Cosmetic Safety Amendments Act of 2012, enhances the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's existing power to review cosmetic ingredients and cosmetic products for safety by:
- Providing a requirement for product registration.
- Requiring the reporting of all adverse events suffered by consumers related to products.
- Mandating safety substantiation.
Mary Kay joins the Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors Association (ICMAD) in support of reintroducing the Cosmetic Safety Amendments Act. This important legislation also protects the viability of small businesses, a group that remains central to continued industry-wide innovation and job creation.
"ICMAD has a long track record of working with federal regulators to promote product safety, honor the best science in our industry and advance small businesses that innovate and provide jobs," ICMAD CEO Pam Busiek said.
Mary Kay takes great pride in putting the continued safety and well-being of consumers of Mary Kay products above all else. We feel those efforts will be maximized with the passage of this proposed legislation.
