Materials and Methods Already Exist to Reduce the Devastation Caused by Tsunami Tidal Forces, Says Russian Scientist Marsel Yanovich Bickbau
SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Russian scientist Marsel Yanovich Bickbau and his colleague Itzhak Elkind have applied for worldwide patents on methods for reducing the force of tsunami tidal waves. Research for this endeavor, resulting in Russian Federation patents last year, took place well before a disastrous tsunami hit the Miyagi Prefecture, Fukushima on the eastern coastline of Japan, March 11, 2011. Even as the world watched gigantic waves sweep over the densely populated Japanese coastline, destroying whole cities, and creating worldwide concern about the safety of nuclear energy facilities in the path of such destruction, Bickbau and Elkind knew that methods using specialized nano-cement technology developed by Dr. Bickbau several years ago, along with recent advances, could dramatically reduce the impact of similar tsunami waves in the future.
Bickbau and Elkind's strategy involves placement of specialized concrete structures in coastal waters to redirect tsunami waves. These structures would redirect part of the wave to parallel the coastline, while most of the force of the wave is turned back upon itself. They commented that "almost all of the applied engineering currently exists within the civil construction and precast/prestressed concrete sectors. We feel that applying this patented technology requires professionals who are adept at the economical manufacture of elemental concrete, and its practical applications." Dr. Jerrolynn Kawamoto will oversee the USA portion of tsunami mitigation projects.
