Maxthon Win About.com's 2011 Readers' Choice Award for Best Small Browser
NEW YORK, March 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ --- About.com today announced that Maxthon has been selected as the About.com 2011 Readers' Choice Award for best small browser. Now in its fourth year, the Readers' Choice Awards honor the best products, features and services across more than a dozen categories, ranging from technology to hobbies to parenting and more, as selected by its readers.
"This year's Readers' Choice Awards program had a record number of nominations submitted across more than a dozen categories and featured hundreds of finalists," said Margot Weiss, managing editor of About.com. "We are thankful to all our readers for their participation and congratulate Maxthon International on its success."
In January, the site's readers were asked to nominate their favorite browsers. After a nomination period that saw a flurry of activity, five finalists were chosen in both the large-market and small browser categories. From February 11 through March 8, 2011, readers cast thousands of ballots per day via the website.
Scott Orgera, About.com guide to web browsers, said, "The so-called small-market browsers filled out an interesting niche. The five finalists in this category included a browser centered around social networking and an old favorite of Mac users."
"In the end, however, it was neither of these two that claimed victory. Maxthon, a Windows browser which has been around since 2003 and boasts over 555 million installations worldwide, is this year's Best Small Market Desktop Browser by a virtual landslide!"
Maxthon received 80 percent of the votes in its category. RockMelt received 10 percent, Camino garnered 4 percent, and Flock received 1 percent of the vote.
Maxthon share was more than any of the browsers receives in the big-market category. There, Firefox won with 48 percent of the vote, Opera obtained 33 percent, Chrome had 16 percent, and Internet Explorer and Apple Safari both received 0 percent.
