WASHINGTON, July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With Mitt Romney campaigning in Los Angeles, CA today, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa held a press conference call to discuss Romney's failed economic record as Governor of Massachusetts and advocacy for polices that would further damage the economy.

On the call, Mayor Villaraigosa said:

"Mr. Romney is running on a record where when he was Governor, Massachusetts was 47th out of 50 in job creation in the country.  He lost manufacturing jobs at twice the national average, he was one of only six states that didn't fully recover all the jobs lost in 2001 recession by the time he left office, and under his leadership, foreclosures in Massachusetts skyrocketed – and remember that was before the mortgage crisis meltdown. He doesn't exactly have a record that would give me confidence that he could turn LA or America's economy around.

"Not to mention he's come out in support of the Cut, Cap, and Balance... he's embraced the Ryan plan ...that would gut Medicare.  I don't get where someone like him has the gall frankly, to come out to Los Angeles and use our city as a backdrop for his failed record and ideas."
