Mayor Proclaims Houston Philanthropic Society Day Honoring Everyday Heroes
HOUSTON, June 24, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Mayor Annise D. Parker issues proclamation declaring Friday, June 24 as "Houston Philanthropic Society Day". This annual day of recognition is set aside in June to celebrate the spirit of philanthropy in our city by honoring Everyday Heroes.
"The philanthropic community is large and yet varied, and each individual voice is equally important on this special day of recognition," states Annise Parker, Mayor of the City of Houston. "Individuals, groups and corporations are encouraged to show their appreciation for Houston's Everyday Heroes who give back each and every day."
We know many individuals work tirelessly to help their fellow neighbors in need. Anyone interested in honoring these local Everyday Heroes can get involved by joining an online community on Facebook (4everydayheroes) and Twitter (4everydayheroes) to share their stories. Houstonians can send flowers, write thank you cards or create awards to show their appreciation. Recommendations on additional ways to thank heroes are posted at www.houstonps.org.
"We are honored to have the City of Houston recognize the importance of creating awareness and appreciation of individuals in our great city who respond to the call of duty to give back to promote common good." said Deena Carstens Munn, President and Founder of Houston Philanthropic Society. "We invite Houstonians to celebrate this city-wide day of appreciation by simply thanking Everyday Heroes that they know and see in action."
