MERIDIAN, Okla., March 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Less than one hundred days in office, the Honorable Mayor Ronald G. Dumas has cleaned up his Town of Meridian. Financially and physically, clean-up crews are clearing up a once ghost-looking place. Tree branches, old stoves and generally trash along the Main Street are now removed. Now the focus is on the rehabilitation of the L'Ouverture School. The school was built in the 1950s.
The Field Representative from the Honorable U S Senator James Lankford's office, Brookes Wright just last week inspired the Council and the Mayor that a joint effort would follow to assist the Town in its endeavor. "I am glad to know that our Legislator is actively interested in our situation," shares Mayor Ronald. "It encourages us to be in accordance with submission of grants proposals that Annette Colbert-Latham, our Grant Administrator prepared for us." Now, the Council is working to develop its 8-year plan. They are working with Haley Rush landscape to make this Town beautiful once more. Haley Rush is an environmental Assessor with Cox McClain. She co-ventures with Annette on much of the Historical Black Towns projects in the State of Oklahoma.
The Town of Meridian is the actual location of the land run. Its official name is the Indian Meridian. "It is served by 4 Native American communities," beams Annette, "and we want to especially pick on Shane Jett whom shares a wealth of information for Economic Development." The Town was affectionately known as Bootleggers' Paradise and the Main Street was known as 'Bootleggers' Row'.

"The Town of Meridian is installing a Storm Shelter," continues the Mayor "for its citizens' protection now that the streets are lit up again." Many of the elderly residents are enjoying the benefits of having a Mayor and Council that are rehabilitating the school they attended as youngsters.
