WASHINGTON, March 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- McBee Strategic Consulting (MSC), LLC, a leading advocacy and strategic communications firm, will hold a leader forum on Tuesday, March 8 to engage diplomats, U.S. lawmakers from the House and Senate, national security experts, world industry leaders, and others in a discussion to compare and contrast a multitude of perspectives on the relevance of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) against the backdrop of evolving 21st Century challenges.

What: Leader's forum to address NATO's role in the 21st century

Who:

  • Governor Bill Richardson (ret.)
  • H.E. Rolandas Kriščiūnas, Ambassador of Lithuania to the United States
  • Dr. Curtis Levinson, U.S. Cyber Defense Advisor to NATO

When: 8.30am Tuesday, March 8, 2016

Where:  Wiley Rein LLP
Conference Center
1776 K Street NW,
Washington D.C. 20006

Why: Russia's renewed aggression in Eastern Europe has reignited a Cold War debate on American force posture in Europe. Now more than ever, we need a strong NATO to confront these new global challenges.

NATO's Shifting Image
At the time of its formation following the conclusion of World War II, NATO consisted of just 12 member countries and served a primarily political role in advancing peace and democracy globally while countering the expansion of Russia and communist ideology. Today, the political-military alliance is comprised of 28 member states whose combined military spending comprises nearly two-thirds of global defense spending.

For some, NATO's expansion into Turkey and more recently Eastern Europe raises doubts over the limitations of its peacekeeping mandate, serving more to escalate tensions and conflict than ease them.

"Russia's renewed aggression in Eastern Europe has reignited a Cold War debate on American force posture in Europe and the extent to which NATO can serve has a bulwark against Moscow's regional ambitions," said Will Dempster, Vice President at McBee Strategic Consulting who will be moderating the panel. "Furthermore, the deteriorating situation in Syria and its periphery presents new flashpoints where provocations and misunderstandings could quickly escalate into direct conflict for NATO members. We look forward to examining these questions and others with such a distinguished panel of experts at Tuesday's event."
