McCabe Ambulance Service Introduces New Enhancements In Patient Care; Recognized By State Of NJ
New enhancements include the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) for patients with breathing problems and pulse oximeters to guide the administration of oxygen. McCabe Ambulance also receives two awards at State EMS Conference.
BAYONNE, N.J., Dec. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- McCabe Ambulance, the exclusive provider of emergency medical services (EMS) to the City of Bayonne since 1983, is pleased to provide expanded emergency services courtesy of new patient care enhancements. Following the endorsement of expanded scope of practice protocols promulgated by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, McCabe Ambulance has wasted no time implementing these lifesaving techniques into policy. These enhancements include the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) for patients with breathing problems and pulse oximeters to guide the administration of oxygen. These interventions, previously reserved for paramedics only, can now be performed by McCabe Ambulance EMTs, increasing the level of care delivered on every emergency call. This initiative comes on the heels of an overwhelmingly successful narcotic overdose antidote protocol McCabe Ambulance implemented last year.
"We've sought to take advantage of every opportunity to raise the bar higher," said Michael McCabe, Chief of Operations at McCabe Ambulance. "Each of these lifesaving tools allows us to provide better care for our patients."
McCabe Ambulance has also successfully implemented a program where EMTs can activate a "Code Stroke" from the field, which allows them to immediately refer stroke patients for a CAT Scan, providing more prompt diagnosis and speedier treatment.
"Decreasing the time it takes to definitively diagnose a stroke should start with the EMS crews making contact with the patient early on. Their role in this process cannot be overstated," said Dr. Young Yoon, Medical Director at McCabe Ambulance.
Founded 43 years ago by H. Mickey McCabe in his home in Bayonne, the family-operated company now has 50 vehicles and 140 employees, of which 75 are Bayonne residents. McCabe Ambulance is the exclusive provider of 9-1-1 ambulance service for Bayonne, provides backup 9-1-1 services for Hoboken and offers emergency aid to neighboring communities in Hudson County. McCabe also handles emergency response for the New Jersey Turnpike and Bayonne Bridge.
McCabe Ambulance and its employees have been recognized many times over the years, most notably at the 2015 New Jersey State EMS Conference in Atlantic City, where Chief Michael McCabe was awarded the "Administrator of the Year" award, and Founder and CEO, H. Mickey McCabe was awarded the "State Director" award. As a company, McCabe Ambulance Service has been awarded "Private Provider of the Year" honors in both 2004 and 2010, while H. Mickey McCabe garnered the "Lifetime Achievement" award for his continued involvement in working to improve New Jersey's EMS system in 2010, as well.
