McGregor Foundation Disburses $520,902 for Senior Programs
Distributions Exceed $7.6 million Since 2002
EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The McGregor Foundation redoubled its focus on strengthening the safety net of basic human services for Northeast Ohio's most vulnerable seniors by distributing $520,902 to a wide range of organizations during its semi-annual grantmaking cycle.
Among the grantees was the City of Cleveland, which received $45,000 from McGregor and the same amount from the Cleveland Foundation. These grants are toward implementation of Economic Security Centers, a competitive matching-grant program sponsored by the National Council on Aging. The Centers will provide financial counseling to 500 low-income seniors in partnership with 11 local agencies.
"The needs of low-income seniors in Northeast Ohio continue to escalate," says McGregor Foundation President Rob Hilton. "At the same time, we have seen a decline in the financial resources available to meet those needs."
McGregor also continued to support the development of affordable senior housing in Cleveland by providing funds to encourage four separate projects now in planning.
In addition, grants included $35,000 to Case Western Reserve University for Healthy Homes, a program that surveys and improves senior housing to ensure the healthiest possible living environments.
The latest grants bring the total to more than $7.6 million distributed since the McGregor Foundation was created in 2002.
