Medical-artist.com Wins Yoga Illustration Contract for QUID Publishers

Leading UK medical illustration company, Medical-artist.com, has been chosen by Quid Publishers to illustrate The Student's Anatomy of Yoga Manual. The manual, aimed at yoga instructors and students, features 30 full-colour illustrations of classic yoga positions.  It is one of the latest editions to the scientific titles produced by QUID publishers, part of The Quarto Group.

The Student's Anatomy of Yoga Manual is a comprehensive guide that depicts each yoga position in precise anatomical detail, helping the yoga enthusiast to understand how each muscle group is used within the specific pose.  It is intended to help the student complete the moves accurately and safely in order to achieve the maximum effectiveness from their yoga workout, as well as understanding how each position targets specific muscle strength and flexibility.  

Joanna Culley, lead artist at Medical-artist.com, began the project with a series of comprehensive briefs, which were used in the photo shoots held with a professional yoga instructor. It was imperative to both Joanna and the author that each pose was produced to the highest level of anatomical precision. After capturing the yoga positions on camera, Joanna sketched each of the poses in pencil in order to first be approved for their yoga and anatomical accuracy. The sketches were later developed into full-colour illustrations that supported the professional look and feel of the manual.

As a traditionally trained professional medical artist, Joanna is regularly commissioned for medical, scientific and anatomical illustrations across a wide range of mediums, such as watercolour, pencil and digital media.  She previously completed 50 colour illustrations for the highly successful, The Student's Anatomy of Stretching Manual, part of the anatomical series of workout books that now includes The Student's Anatomy of Yoga Manual.
