Melanie J. Dressel Appointed to the American Bankers Association Board of Directors
TACOMA, Wash., April 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Melanie J. Dressel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Columbia Banking System, Inc. and its subsidiary, Columbia State Bank, has been appointed to the board of directors for the American Bankers Association ("ABA"). She will also continue serving as the Vice Chair of the ABA's Grassroots Committee.

The ABA represents banks across the United States of all sizes and charters, and is the voice for the nation's $13 trillion banking industry and its two million employees. The association's extensive resources enhance the success of the nation's banks and help to strengthen America's economy and communities.
A graduate of the University of Washington, Ms. Dressel is currently a board member of the Executive Council for a Greater Tacoma, the Washington Bankers Association, Washington Roundtable, the ArtsFund and the Washington State Historical Society. In the past she served as Board member of Foss Waterway Development Authority. She further served as Chair of the Boards of Mary Bridge Children's Foundation, Bellarmine Preparatory School and Tacoma/Pierce County Chamber of Commerce. She serves on numerous committees in relation to those organizations, and is a member of the Greater Metro Parks Foundation Zina Linnick Project Steering Committee. In 2006, she was named one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking by U.S. Banker Magazine for the third consecutive year. Dressel's past volunteer activities include serving on the board and executive committees for the Tacoma Art Museum and the United Way of Pierce County.
