MIAMI, Feb. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Acceller, Inc., CEO Steve McKean has been invited to be a community track judge for the 14th Annual Miami Herald 2012 Business Plan Challenge, which is an entrepreneurship contest run every spring for young businesses. The contest is co-sponsored by Florida International University's Eugenio Pino and Family Global Entrepreneurship Center.
"I'm honored to be chosen to judge and evaluate business plans from young businesses," said McKean, who founded Acceller in 1999. "This is such a great opportunity for entrepreneurial talent in South Florida." As the driving visionary behind Acceller's innovative comparison shopping platform, he has a background perfectly suited to review original business plans.
Contestants, whose businesses are younger than two years old or only exist on paper, are asked to submit a three-page business plan in one of three separate tracks, including community, FIU and high school. A panel of expert judges will select the top three business plans in each track based on both the quality of the idea and the quality of the business plan itself. Also, an online community will choose a "People's Pick" winner in both the community and the FIU tracks. An overall 2012 Challenge Champion will also be named, which can come from any of the three tracks.
The contest gives participants publicity, as well as highly regarded feedback from the judges, who are fellow business owners that have already discovered varied amounts of success. The top six entrants will also get a chance to participate in a popular video contest, as well.
