AUSTIN – PIONEERING THE GREEN MOVEMENT
Austin, as one of the nation's fastest growing cities, created the first green building program in efforts to minimize the city's environmental impact. Austin Energy Green Building, inaugurated in 1990, soon became the nation's most successful sustainable development program. GreenWorld Restoration is proud to be a part of this pioneer movement to raise awareness for sustainable development initiatives and environmentally friendly rapid recovery programs.
CLEEN SPEAKER ENGAGEMENT
CLEEN, the acronym meaning Clean Energy Entrepreneurs Network, pre-dates the LEED program promoting initiatives for more environmentally friendly sustainable building practices. For the last event of the summer, Austin Energy Green Building hosted a forum to discuss green building and smart growth in Austin. Several leaders in sustainable development and green building were invited to speak and express their ideas on implementing programs to promote environmental balance and sustainability. Michael Torres, president of GreenWorld Restoration, addressed the attendees on the topic of sustainable building and building for resiliency.
As Torres explained, GreenWorld has spent the last eight years researching the effects of natural disasters and deforestation on communities and developing solutions to restore hope and promote sustainability. Although GreenWorld's research has been mainly focused on disaster recovery sustainable housing development, one of the central objectives continues to be raising awareness to the possibility of using cleaner, more environmentally sound materials to build better, stronger and more energy efficient homes.
