Governor, Rick Snyder Recognized For Promoting, Protecting And Sustaining Michigan's Forests
LANSING, Mich., Aug. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Michigan Forest Products Council (MFPC) announced that Michigan Governor, Rick Snyder received the annual Tuebor Award from the MFPC's board of directors.
"Governor Snyder has been a leader for Michigan," said MFPC Chairman, Ron Salisbury. "Over the past four years, Governor Snyder has an accomplished record as a public servant, particularly his successful effort to promote manufacturing and expand the state's natural resource based economy." The MFPC cited his efforts to:

- Expanded forest conservation and stewardship
- Encouraged active forest management and responsible environmental regulation
The annual Tuebor Award recognizes significant accomplishments in business and natural resource policy. Recognition focuses on leadership in support of well-managed forests that are vital to Michigan's quality of life, environment and economy. The total economic benefit of Michigan's forest products industry in 2014 is expected to be $14.6 billion. The state has 19.3 million acres of forestland, including 2.5 million acres of federal National Forests and 312,500 private landowners. Additionally, Michigan's forest products industry accounts for $51 billion in direct and indirect economic impact.
