Microgrid Deployment Tracker 4Q12
NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue:Microgrid Deployment Tracker 4Q12
Campus, Military, Remote, Commercial/Industrial and Community/Utility Microgrid Segments: Project Tracking and Capacity Growth
Most microgrids operating today are, in essence, retrofit projects, cobbling together existing assets and deriving revenues from an overlay of controls used to enable legacy technology to talk to the new technology (usually small amounts of solar PV or a new advanced energy storage unit). Today, however, microgrids are beginning to move more into the mainstream with greenfield projects. New vendors keep entering this space, and previously undiscovered projects come to the fore. In addition, the growing frequency of extreme weather events increases the appeal of the reliability benefits attached to a microgrid.
All told, Pike Research has identified a total of 3.2 GW of total microgrid capacity throughout the world, up from 2.6 GW in the previous update in 2Q 2012. Total numbers of new project entries was 67, representing an increase of 571 MW or an 82% increase in identified capacity within a six month period. Several additional microgrids are in the planning stages.
This Pike Research tracker is a fourth edition database that is updated biennially and covers five microgrid market application segments and four principal geographies. The tracker lists proposed, planned, under development, and operating microgrids – as well as selected projects that lay the foundation for viable microgrids over the next 6 years. The goal of this database is to provide the best up-to-date summary of microgrid projects available globally.Key Questions Addressed: -What is the total capacity of microgrids worldwide?
-Which microgrid segments are gaining the most traction globally?
-How do different world regions rank in terms of numbers of microgrids?
-Which companies currently have microgrids planned, proposed, under development, or operating?
-When will leading microgrid projects actually be up and running?
-Which technologies are being deployed in microgrids around the world?Who needs this report? -Microgrid hardware and software companies
-Control technology vendors
-Distributed generation technology providers
-Engineering firms and systems integrators
