The switch delivers 60 watts (W) of power per device over standard Ethernet cabling to outdoor devices such as wireless local-area network access points (WLAN), Internet protocol (IP) cameras, point-to-point microwave radio and small cells—and is ideal for outdoor deployments in several industries including education, transportation, and government. Microsemi will be showcasing the device in Europe at the Cisco Live event in Berlin Feb. 15-18 and in the U.S. at ISC West in Las Vegas April 5-8.

The PDS-104GO addresses the increasing power needs of outdoor PoE applications which are connected to several million ports per year, with an estimated serviceable available market (SAM) of approximately $300 million per year according to market research firm Infonetics.
With simple and straightforward deployment, the IEEE802.3at-compliant switch is IP66-rated and can be installed in outdoor environments without the need to open the unit during installation. The switch delivers PoE power up to 60 W per device and enables remote monitoring and control of the device's status, including remote reset. The PDS-104GO also extends the reach between the switch and powered devices (PDs) by an additional 100 meters, to a maximum of 200 meters, a major benefit for many applications. In addition, the device offers lightening protection to the switch itself as well as to the indoor network.
