MingJian Releases First ICRT-Certified Reviews of Xiaomi Mi4 and OnePlus One

SHANGHAI, Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MingJian, China's only licensed member of International Consumer Research & Testing (ICRT), a global consortium of consumer organizations including Consumer Reports and Which?, today announced the first ICRT-certified reviews of the Xiaomi Mi4 and OnePlus One smartphones tested together with the Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

"Overall, the Xiaomi Mi4 and the OnePlus One bring high performance smartphones within reach of a much wider range of consumers, with pricing from RMB 1,999," said James Feldkamp, MingJian's CEO.

However, the most extensive range of comparative testing ever done on the Xiaomi Mi4 and Oneplus One - a range of 645 tests conducted in ICRT's electronics lab in Germany - found that neither phone is able to compete at the level of the latest iPhones.

"Both the Xiaomi Mi4 and Oneplus One fall short of living up to the promise of their high specifications as they lack the design to take full advantage of their hardware."

"Sporting top-notch build quality, Xiaomi was clearly swinging for a home-run with the Mi4, yet its Achilles' heel of poor audio recording quality and sub-par optimization kept it in the park," continued Mr. Feldkamp.

The Xiaomi Mi4 also beat the iPhone hands down on battery life, and performed better in drop and scratch tests. Yet neither Xiaomi nor OnePlus had camera quality to rival the latest iPhones.

"For the moment, design integration continues to be the missing ingredient for Chinese smartphones. That said, with the rapid rate of innovation among Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, who are bringing increasingly high-end products to the masses, Apple and Samsung should be shaking in their boots."
