ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Minnesota Hospital Political Action Committee (PAC) announced today that it endorses Independence Party candidate Tom Horner for governor. The Minnesota Hospital PAC is a voluntary, nonpartisan organization dedicated to supporting candidates that will help Minnesota's patients and the hospitals and health systems who care for them.
"The PAC board's primary consideration for the endorsement decision was the candidates' positions on the key issues affecting Minnesota's residents and the quality, affordability and accessibility of the health care they receive," said Mary Klimp, Minnesota Hospital PAC board chair. "Tom Horner's common sense approach and understanding of health care issues will bring the kind of leadership Minnesota needs to meet the challenges we face."
Lawrence Massa, a Minnesota Hospital PAC board member and President and CEO of the Minnesota Hospital Association, explained that today's endorsement is unusual for the PAC. "Typically, we don't endorse candidates, but the projected state budget shortfall and the significant changes that lie ahead for health care delivery and financing over the next several years call for us to speak in support of the thoughtful, balanced positions and leadership Tom Horner offers," he said. "Minnesota needs bold-yet-pragmatic, bipartisan solutions."
The Minnesota Hospital PAC is a separate organization from the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA).
