Minnesota Hospitals Recognized for 20 Years of Supporting Health Care Access
ST. PAUL, Minn., May 12, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In celebration of its 20th Anniversary, Portico Healthnet will recognize its hospital partners for their ongoing commitment to helping uninsured Minnesotans access health coverage and care.
"Two decades before the Affordable Care Act, hospital leaders in Minnesota recognized the need for a program to help all Minnesotans overcome barriers to health care coverage and services, and empower them to be educated consumers and users of health care," said Deb Holmgren, President of Portico Healthnet. "It is because of the generous financial support of our hospital and funding partners that Portico has been able to help improve the health of thousands of Minnesotans."
Hospitals being recognized are:
Abbott Northwestern Hospital (Allina Health)
Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota
Fairview Ridges Hospital
Fairview Southdale Hospital
Hennepin County Medical Center
Lakeview Hospital
Regions Hospital
St. John's Hospital (HealthEast Care System)
St. Joseph's Hospital (HealthEast Care System)
United Hospital (Allina Health)
University of Minnesota Medical Center
Woodwinds Health Campus (a collaboration between HealthEast Care System and Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota)
Through these hospital partnerships, Portico offers a low-cost health coverage program for people who do not qualify for government programs. Portico's services help underserved Minnesotans navigate the often complex health care system, connect with community health resources, and gain tools to effectively manage their health.
In the 20 years since its inception, Portico has helped over 16,000 successfully enroll in Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare, and over 11,000 have enrolled in Portico's coverage program. Of those served by Portico, 82% are people of color, 49% speak a language other than English as their primary language, 32% are children, and 90% have a household income at or below 200 percent of federal poverty level.
Portico's hospital partners will be recognized at its 20th Anniversary celebration on May 14 at 11:30 at the Midland Hills Country Club, 2001 Fulham Street, Roseville. Additional event information can be found at porticohealthnet.org.
