Mirena IUD Lawsuit Update: The Rottenstein Law Group Responds to Report of Lawsuits' Effect on Bayer's Recent Stock Performance
NEW YORK, Feb. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Rottenstein Law Group acknowledges a Bloomberg report about German drug manufacturer Bayer's recent stock losses, which the story attributes to a Mirena lawsuit.

The company saw a 2.8 percent loss following an American woman's lawsuit (Prendergast v. Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corp., 13-00450, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania) against Bayer, according to Bloomberg.* She alleges that the company failed to warn of the risks associated with the Mirena hormonal intrauterine device, such as the risk of ectopic pregnancy and the possibility of device embedment and migration.** As of Feb. 11th, the company stock price slump has persisted.
Rochelle Rottenstein , principal of the Rottenstein Law Group, said she has heard from many women who have discussed similar alleged side effects and risks associated with the Mirena IUD. The Rottenstein Law Group represents clients in Mirena lawsuits.
"Regardless of a company's stock performance, if it manufactures products that could be potentially harmful it is important the company is held accountable," Rottenstein said. "We are available to help Mirena recipients evaluate if they have a case."
The Rottenstein Law Group manages a Mirena IUD Lawsuit Center, which features comprehensive information about Mirena and how to file a lawsuit.
In 2000, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the plastic Mirena intrauterine device, which releases a low-dose of hormone as a contraceptive for up to five years. It was marketed toward women who have had children but do not want more. About two million women in the United States use the device, according to Bloomberg. It was the last IUD the FDA approved (and the only hormonal one) until recently, when the regulatory body gave a nod to Bayer's Skyla, a hormonal IUD similar to the Mirena and marketed toward young women who haven't yet given birth.
Bayer is currently a defendant in several lawsuits (Case No. MRS-L-924-12 et al) in New Jersey Supreme Court over its Mirena IUD. Most recently, the state's Supreme Court denied the pharmaceutical maker's request to combine Mirena IUD lawsuits into a single "multicounty litigation" in Middlesex County, according to a Jan. 8 notice*** from Glenn A. Grant , acting administrative director of the New Jersey Supreme Court.
