HOUSTON, June 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- OrthoAccel® Technologies, Inc. announced today that Madison Root, a 12-year-old girl from Lake Oswego, Ore., who made national headlines when she was banned from selling mistletoe to raise money for braces, will use AcceleDent® to accelerate her orthodontic treatment. Shortly after getting her braces on in January, Root's orthodontist, Dr. Jeffrey Sessions, offered to prescribe AcceleDent to Root, explaining that the new, FDA-cleared medical device could speed up her braces treatment by as much as 50 percent with only 20 minutes of daily use.
"I'm excited to get the smile I always wanted even faster with AcceleDent," said Root, who now has 9-12 months of treatment remaining because of AcceleDent. Originally her doctor projected that she had 18-24 months of treatment remaining. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to partner with Dr. Sessions and OrthoAccel in using this breakthrough technology."
After learning about Root's story, OrthoAccel executives say that they wanted to recognize her entrepreneurial initiative by accelerating her journey to her goal of a beautiful new smile. They thought AcceleDent was an obvious fit for Root because the technology has been clinically proven to speed up orthodontic treatment.
"As an entrepreneur myself, it was so encouraging and inspiring to follow Madison's story, and we applaud her for having such an entrepreneurial spirit and passion at such a young age," said Michael K. Lowe, OrthoAccel's president and CEO. "We're excited that Madison is using AcceleDent to accelerate her treatment, and we think it's the perfect complement to help her reach her new smile goal."
A prescription-only device, AcceleDent uses SoftPulse Technology® to accelerate tooth movement with gentle vibrations. Sessions Orthodontics is a leading-edge orthodontic practice in the Portland area that offers AcceleDent to its patients.
"We are pleased that we can be part of Madison's journey. Connecting and interacting with our patients is one of the many benefits of our profession because it is so much more than treatment," said Sessions. "We are giving patients like Madison smiles to be confident in as they go forward to accomplish their dreams or goals in life. We offer AcceleDent as an added treatment option because this technology allows us to give patients the opportunity to shorten their treatment time."
