FAIRMONT, W.Va., July 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mon Power, a FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) utility, continues an aggressive effort to restore power to customers in West Virginia following the summer storm that downed trees and wires in the region beginning last night.
As of 9:00 a.m., Mon Power has restored more than 32,000 of the approximately 71,000 customers who lost power since the event began. The hardest hit Mon Power areas include Parkersburg, Clarksburg-Bridgeport, and Lewis and Preston counties. Based on the severity of the damage, the company expects this to be a multi-day outage event.
All available Mon Power personnel are involved in the restoration effort. Additional FirstEnergy resources and contractors are being deployed to Mon Power areas impacted by the weather, and efforts are continuing to secure additional support through utility mutual assistance organizations.
Customers who are without power are encouraged to call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the "Report Outage" link on www.firstenergycorp.com. Customers should immediately report downed wires to their utility or their local police or fire department. Customers should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity.
