MADISON, Wis., Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Mongoose Bikes, a brand of Dorel Industries, Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A) wrapped up the fifth annual Mongoose Jam at Woodward West in August. This year, rather than a live, three discipline event, five teams captained by Mongoose BMX pros competed in a video edit contest which featured Dirt, Park and Street riding. Each team battled it out for five days to film and produce the best edit during the ninth week of camp at Woodward West.
From July 31st through August 5th fifteen pros, five amateurs, and five videographers shot and produced five team edits. The teams' video edits premiered at the Woodward West movie theatre. All who competed in the contest, as well as Woodward West campers, were invited to view the edits on the final day. A panel of industry vets Van Homan, Keith Mulligan and Austin Coleman judged the edits based on originality, style, the variety and difficulty of tricks as well as production quality.
Mongoose BMX riders Pat Casey, Greg Illingworth, Kevin Peraza, Paul Ryan and Ben Wallace each captained one of the five teams, inviting two pro BMX athletes as well as one videographer to join their teams. Captains also scouted and selected one amateur from among the Woodward West campers to join their teams.
"This year's Mongoose Jam at Woodward West was awesome as they switched things up from your average contest," said Mongoose athlete Ben Wallace. "The coolest thing about it was that you had five days to film a 3.5 minute video while competing against other teams. Sometimes it takes all day to get the only clip you really want. We didn't have that time."
"I had the best time making good memories. All of the stress and hard work was worth it just to watch our final product on the big screen at the end of the week. I can't wait to do it all again."
The pros and their videographers competed for a piece of a $50,000 prize purse which included overall team placement along with a Most Valuable Rider award and a Viewers' Choice award selected by the audience of RideBMX.com, a top tier publication in the BMX industry. In the end it was Pat Casey's team with pros Jake Leiva, Mike Varga, and filmer Casey McPerry who took first place overall and received the Viewers' Choice award.
"The new format of Mongoose Jam is exactly what the BMX industry needs," said Team Casey filmer Casey McPerry. "This is a creative new way to bring together the entire BMX community of riders and film makers to create a one-of-a-kind contest."
