Mooresville's Lazy 5 Ranch Ranked Top NC Field Trip Attraction
MATTHEWS, N.C., Oct. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- For the third time in the last five years, the Lazy Five Ranch in Mooresville is North Carolina's most visited school field trip destination.
The popular zoo and animal attraction led in field trip attendance in an annual survey conducted by Carolina Publishing & Associates of Matthews, publisher of Carolina Field Trips Magazine.
"We're obviously honored to be ranked as North Carolina's number one field trip attraction again this year," said Lazy 5 Ranch owner and president Henry Hampton. The Lazy 5 Ranch enjoyed a slight increase in field trip attendance with 126,278 students visiting. Dan Nicholas Park, the Rowan County Parks and Recreation facility in nearby Salisbury, finished second in the survey with 120,890 visitors. Rounding out the top five biggest field trip attractions in the survey were the Natural Science Center in Greensboro with 116,633 visitors, the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro with 115,452 and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh with 112,274.
Other attractions among the top ten in this year's survey were Discovery Place in Charlotte, Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh, The Schiele Museum in Gastonia, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill and the NC History Museum in Raleigh.
Rounding out the top 20 were 11. North Carolina Aquariums, Manteo, Pine Koll Shores, Kure Beach; 12. Children's Theatre of Charlotte; 13. Catawba Science Center, Salisbury; 14. Tryon Palace Historic Sites and Gardens, New Bern; 15. NC State Capitol, Raleigh; 16. NC Museum of Art, Raleigh; 17. Old Salem Museum & Gardens, Winston-Salem; 18. Biltmore, Asheville; 19. Linville Caverns, Marion and Patterson Farm Market and Tours, Mount Ulla.
SciWorks in Winston-Salem ranked 21st, followed by the Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville, KidsSenses Children's Museum, Rutherfordton, Alice Aycock Poe Center, Raleigh, and the Museum of Life and Science in Durham.
